Evansville Alumnae Philanthropic Activities!
Scholarships:
The Mildred Blake SAI
Alumnae Scholarship Fund:
In 1990, the Alumnae Chapter hosted the first Sigma Alpha Iota Scholarship
Benefit Dance in support of this scholarship, in memory of the late Mildred
Blake. The first scholarship was given in 1995 and has been given as funds
are available in the amount of $200 since. The scholarship is given to a
University of Evansville Beta Epsilon music student, who is awarded this
honor based upon a performance to the scholarship committee. The scholarship
given is to be used towards college expenses.
The Eleanor Hoos SAI
Alumnae Scholarship Fund:
This scholarship is in memory of the late Eleanor Hoos, who was an organist
and a member of the Patroness Chapter for many years. The scholarship was
first given in 2000 and has been given when funds are available in the amount
of $150 every other year since. The scholarship is given to a University
of Evansville Beta Epsilon music student, who is awarded this honor based
upon a performance to the scholarship committee. The scholarship given is
to be used towards college expenses.
Music for the Troops:
In 2003, the chapter developed
this philanthropic activity due to relatives of members who were serving
overseas. The members' relatives said that they missed hearing American music
and missed having music uplift their spirits. With that, the chapter decided
to adopt this activity and began sending CDs to the troops during holiday
seasons. To date, the chapter has sent almost 1,000 CDs!
Good Samaritan Nursing Home:
Members of the Evansville Alumnae Chapter play at the local Good Samaritan
Nursing Home on Boke Ave., the second Wednesday of every month.
